SHAYLA FELTON- DORSEY is a passionate Philadelphia chef whose focus includes community,culture and food. She has been featured in Movitos Magazine and on Spiritual Connect Radio being a voice for her community.In Edible Philly Magazine facilitating a pro plant-base class.
Her passion for the Culinary Arts began in her early years, as she comes from a long lineage of Restauranteurs. Shayla has been monikered as having the "cooking gene" being related to Sylvia Woods of Sylvia's Restaurant, She has staged with her mentor/Godmother Chef Melba Wilson of Melba's restaurant/ President of The NYC Hospitality Alliance.
Shayla incorporates combating food insecurity along with creativity,reducing food waste , being plant forward to recipes. In 2017, Shayla was certified as a Community Chef Educator with Just Food; an organization that pioneers food justice and advocates for sustainable agriculture .
Shayla teaches at The Culinary Literacy Center with the Edible Alphabet a program that uses cooking as a vehicle for learning advancing literacy for learning. Shayla collaborates with Ambrosia's Food Group, whose values align teaching, cooking aimed at educating the community . Shayla has partnered with The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, INC Pennsylvania Chapter, PENN Medicine,Delta Sigma Theta -Quaker City Chapter and Mt. Airy Learning Tree In 2018, Shayla developed her Personal Chef / Catering Company , Shayla's Savour. Shayla is also a personal chef, whose culinary signature is to infuse a dish with love and roses! To curate intimate experiences that feature Global Cuisine transporting her guests all around the world . In 2019 Shayla became certified by the National Council For Behavioral Health in Youth Mental First Aid and partnered with the Free Library Philadelphia; facilitating Self- Care Workshops for One Book, One Philadelphia intersecting health and nutrition. Shayla is the Philadelphia chapter President of Just Call Me Chef; A sisterhood of mentoring,networking and building community among African-American women chef. Shayla is featured in the J.C.M.C 2020 edition calendar which highlights African-American chefs around the country.
